Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) India's flagship natural gas company was incorporated on August 1984 as a public limited company by the Government of India. The company was established to lay an onshore pipeline from Hazira on the west coast to supply natural gas to facilities in the states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Now it is an integrated energy company in the hydrocarbon sector along with all aspects of the natural gas value chain and its related services. The Company is engaged in gas marketing & an activities, including transportation through pipeline; manufacture of basic chemicals, fertilizer and nitrogen compounds, plastics and synthetic rubber in primary forms; extraction of natural gas, extraction of crude petroleum, and electric power generation, transmission and distribution.
They have interest in the business of natural gas LPG Liquid Hydrocarbons and Petrochemicals. They have also diversified into Exploration & Production City Gas Distribution and are steadily developing their overseas presence. The Company's segments include Transmission services, which includes natural gas and liquid petroleum gas (LPG); Petrochemicals; Natural Gas Trading; City Gas Distribution; LPG and other Liquid Hydrocarbons, and Other Segments, which includes GAIL TEL, exploration and production (E&P), City Gas and Power Generation.
The Company's products and services include natural gas marketing and transmission; petrochemicals (polyethylene and polypropylene), and liquid hydrocarbons production (LPG, propane, pentane and naphtha). It has large network of natural gas trunk pipelines covering a length of 7850 km.
